I had to replace the clutch and brake shaft bushings while my Ford 640 is split. The bushings were literally in two pieces in each hold and wearing a groove in the shafts. I think the new bushings will be
ok with the condition of the shafts but how do you put the fork and shift lever back on the end of the shaft? I bought new pins from the ytmag site, but they seem they may be too small of diameter or
require some kind of peening on the end.
The pins I drove out had to be ground down and were a very tight fit before I could push them out with a punch. The new pins slide freely in and out of the holes and I'm thinking that they may need to be
peened over? The diameter is 0.01 smaller on the new pins. This explains why they slide freely but that may be ok.
How do you peen them over in the bell housing or should they be a tight fit and not require peening. I think that I could peen the one over on the end of the shift lever with a bottle jack to press the
pin.
You can see the pins in the picture. I may just buy the same diameter clevis pin at the hardware....doubt it's hardened but I use a small cotter pin at the bottom. I found a steel pin with zinc coating and
a hole at the bottom or maybe I could drill a hole in the pins that I bought from the website.
Any thoughts? thanks in advance, moday
