860 pto shaft adapter

I just got an 860 back in the fall and have been fixing some things on it. I now have it operational and have been using it. The PTO shaft has the adapter on it to use my modern PTO equipment like my fertilizer spreader and auger. I have used the auger and other than the lift height, it worked fine. I tried to hook up the fertilizer spreader and the PTO shaft would not go on because with the adapter, it stuck out too far and the PTO shaft on the spreader was pushed all the way in. I took the adapter off and it would work length wise, but its the wrong spline pattern. This spreader works well on my Jubilee and Massey and I dont really want to cut the shaft, so other than changing out the shaft in the tractor, is there another option like shorter adapter?

An 860 with a 1 1/8 shaft? Never heard of that before.

best thing to do is buy a new shaft kit. They come all assembled and are ready to install right out of the box. I wouldn't fool with anything else. Cost about
$120.

Our 860 came with the small shaft. It ran the 1 row mounted picker, the older hay mower, and the pulley to run the thresher and silage blower.
We did have a slide on adapter that fit between the shaft and baler which did not lengthen the shaft. However the baler wound up being a little hard on them and could break occasionally.

I believe all 100 series tractors came from the factory with 1 1/8 shafts till 1956. !957s on up were 1 3/8s

Do you have a source for the shorter adapter? I really dont want to cut my pto shafts because they work well on my other 2 tractors.

Here's a short adapter.

Be aware they can be more fragile/breakage-prone than the longer version.

I think that may work. Mine is at Least 8 inches long. I only want to run a fertilizer spreader, so no real load there.
