NAA replacement gas tank

I didn't want to replace my original tank, but the forward mount bracket had come loose in the unknown past and some type of resin was used to keep it in place.

So I opted for a new NAA-9002-E tank without the rear mount bracket since I already had one. It will work, right ? Wrong!

Looked through multiple listings and many sellers had that tank including here, (currently unavailable). The one I bought was sub $200 free shipping.

I was all excited until I took my rear tank mounting braket and placed it over the holes. No match as the as the stamped radius from the seam is 1/8" taller than original thus the bracket wouldn't go forward enough.

I thought about buying another rear tank mount Brkt., but who knows if it's the same as my original or reconfigured to fit the new generation of tanks with the taller radius.

So I hacked my original bracket and removed a portion of the radius allowing the bracket to now align with the holes in the L&R corners of the tank. I've got a piece of 2"x .080" pipe I'll cut to fit over the cutout and weld it in place.

Anyone else run into this, or have you replaced the tank with supplied bracket. I'm guessing the supplied bracket is different than the original.

I replaced mine ('54) with a new one from this site and don't remember any problems but that was 5 years ago. They may have changed and I know my memory has.

Thank you for the reply

About two or three weeks ago I looked at the ones on this site too, and they included the Rear tank mount Brkt., but they were unavailable at that time. All of the other sites I looked at that had the same part number were tanks that also included a center hole fitting on the bottom of the tank. None were exactly like my original, so I opted for a $186 one W/Free shipping, but didn't include the Aft Brkt. No big deal I thought until I placed my Original Brkt on the tank and it didn't fit.

I have not seen a close up picture of a Rear Tank Mount Brkt and wonder if there is obvious differences in them ?

What did you use for Anti Squeak pads for the corners ?

This is what I've done so far. The correction was done to both sides.
The Aft brkt now fits, but there is another 1/2" difference between the length of the holes for the Heat shield bolts. Since it's thin metal I'll elongate two of those.

Today I'll fit the front & rear tank engine brackets and lay the tank on just to see if it will all fit.
