Ford 5000 SOS pto slips under load. To overhaul clutch pack will it come out the back or do I need to remove lift arm cover under seat and remove from above?

You have two choices, you can either remove the lift cover and access the clutch from the top, or else split the tractor behind the transmission and pull it out the front. Going through the top is generally considered the easier and safer way.

Bern, you know these tractors better than me but did they ever put the load monitor in a SOS equipped tractor? I have read in the shop manual that a tractor with LM has to have the PTO clutch removed from the front. Original poster didn't say whether the tractor had it or not. Respectively Greg NE

Have you checked pressures and filters? That's where I'd start. Though if it has slipped for awhile, the clutch pack may be burnt up.

First off, Load Monitor is a very rare option on a 5000. Second, its impossible to put one on a SOS tractor because of the need for the rear axle disconnect parts.

Thanks Bern! I hadn't thought about the disconnect hardware. I have seen a few 5000s with the LM including one of my own and hadn't realized that they were somewhat rare. Didn't mean to hijack this post either by the way. Greg NE

I'm wondering if the dealer in your area was pushing LM as an option or ordering them that way from the factory. There are literally dozens of 5000s still running around in my area, and the vast majority do not have LM. Besides that, many of them are pre-1970 versions, which makes LM still an engineer's dream at that point.
