Sealant for assembling the timing and govenor covers

We have been getting our NAA ready for work. We are starting to reassemble the front of the engine. My dad always used gasket shellac when putting gaskets back on. Would this be a good material to use when putting the timing gear cover and governor cover back on the front of the engine ? I believe it will also have to be put on some of the bolts that go into the block. We have purchased all new gaskets from this site.
If not, what would suggest ?
I still have about three bottles of the Monkey Brand.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give us.

Most any flavor of RTV will work very well and be a lot nicer if you ever have to remove the items. It is all I use on gaskets, been using since the early '70s. Really good on Corvairs when sealing steel part to aluminum.

I looked at the bottles of gasket shellac I have instead of working from my memory. Low and behold, the correct brand is Indian Head Gasket Shellac I apologize for giving the wrong brand name.

Yes, gasket shellac is great. So are adding machines, sickle bar mowers, corn cultivating, and many other tried and proven things. I like Permatex high tack. I spray it on the side towards the part that comes off. It helps to hold it in place while assembling. RTV silicone can be used, but every six months there is a topic here about damage done when too much is applied and boogers of it come off inside the engine and then lodge in oil passages blocking them. The lack of lubrication can necessitate another tear-down.
