6610 4x4 Tiger Special

I bought a 6610 4x4 Tiger Special today. It has an 18 foot reach boom flail mower and a loader on it. After testing it out a bit, I have a few questions for anyone that has experience with these. I won't be hauling it home until better weather, so I'm planning my repair list for when I get it home.

1. The engine seems a bit sluggish to me. When I hit the throttle, it is slow to accelerate (in gear or in neutral). It seemed to pull ok, with what little bit of a hill I had to work with. The engine starts perfectly, and sounds just the way it should. There is almost no black smoke at all out of the exhaust, even with a quick heavy load. The tractor does have a lot of extra weight on it, even though the mower boom and loader were not on it when I drove it. I would guess there is also a lot of parasitic drag from the front-mounted pump for the mower. Did Tiger spec. a heavier flywheel? (that's the way it acts IMO). Or maybe a delayed response because of the governor. Naturally, when I get it home, I'll be changing the air and fuel filters. Any thoughts? We had a similar problem with our 345D when we first got it home. Turns out it needed an injection pump rebuild. It's been so long, I don't recall the details, other than the main problem was lack of power.

2. It has the 8x4 with dual power. The 1-4 shifter is not as easy to shift as I expected. It requires a little more effort and travel between gears than what I would consider normal. Going from the 1-2 to the 3-4 side is a long stretch. Also, I noticed it resisting when I was bringing the shifter from the 3-4 side back to the 1-2 side while rolling forward. It was acting like I was trying to put it in a low gear while rolling too fast, but I was only moving the shifter from right to left.

3. The PTO lever is extremely tight. The PTO and 3 point on this tractor was likely never used. I assume I'm going to need to lubricate some frozen linkage.

4. The AC does not work. All I know is that the compressor does turn on.

Overall, the tractor is in good condition. I just hope it has enough power to handle our JD 535 round baler. We currently pull it with an open-station 7600. Any advice with my repair list or anything else that should be looked at would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a fuel issue unless that pump is building pressure and the relief is not working.

I would wait until you get it home and put it thru the paces. My 550TLB has tons of power out of the 401 but it is sluggish due to weighing 13,000 LBS.

401?? Did you mean 201?

Filters and service first then replace the primer pump before moving to other issues
Ive had to replace the bushings in the bottom of the shifters on my 6610 with cab, its a common wear point
