Ford 3000 fuel tank too low?

The fuel cap on my 1965 Ford 3000 is very low down and hard to reach. The fuel tank looks like it is correctly mounted so I'm not sure if it's mismatched from a different year or if the body work is from a different model.

Any ideas? I might see if there's at least a better fuel cap for it. The current one is hard to grab when it's inset and has smooth rounded edges

Edit: i dont seem to be able to post images but can share elsewhere if it helps

That could be the issue but i'm now thinking they replaced the tank but kept the modern shorter 2 inch neck on it. I think it needs the 3-1/4 inch filler neck (which is no longer made?).

I replaced a tank on a 545a and had the same problem I kept at it till I got the cap to fit : ( the last one I did I repaired the original tank.

That being said if I had elongated the mounting holes at the least I could tweaked it a bit.
