Tank you Bern and Sotxbill for your replies.

I disconnected the air tube at the intake manifiold..
then started the engine and it ran normally.
Removed the oil cup under the air filter it was full of ice
(tractor is always outside). I guess it sniffed fluffy snow on the
hood on warmup at many occasions. In future I will remove the
snow on the hood before starting the engine. In the past I cleaned
up the snow on the tractor during warm-up.
At 75 still learning !

Again thank you both to had take the time to reply
Greatly appreciated.

It's not just snow on the hood at startup that gets in the aircleaner of a tractor used for snowblowing, a steady diet of snowflakes gets sucked in while blowing snow, or even using a blade or plow or loader in the snow!

The oil cup (or dry air filter) to be checked OFTEN for snow/moisture.

Some leave the oil out of the cup or run without an air filter element ASSUMING there isn't going to be any dirt kicked up while working in snow, but I don't do that.

Years ago, some guys used to drop a burlap sack over the pre-cleaner, tying it around the tubing below the pre-cleaner to screen out some of the flying snow, but I haven't seen that for a while.

For use as a snow blowing tractor, you might want to see if you can modify your engine air intake system, such that it sucks under hood air. I take one tube off mine, and eliminate the fresh air intake. And I replace that hose for summer work.

Thank you for responding back..I am down where it never snows and would have never thought of that. You have expanded my knowledge.;) I do see some oil bath air filters that are in bad need of servicing. Either full of mud, empty or the screen wire full of flax and debris. Have seen some full of mud-dubber nests that stopped it from running at higher speeds.. Newer tractors have the air filter restriction light that helps solve the rare air filter plugging problem. And I see tons and tons of blocked tank screens, fuel filters 25% full of water. Every time you run a tank low, it seems you stir up the gunk on the bottom, including water bubbles trapped there.(more common on the 4 cyl row crops)Thanks again for the feedback.
