Lifting rear axles ford 8N is o work on brakes

I use my logging Jack to lift rear axles to work on brakes
Any way to modify a standard automotive hydraulic Jack to lift rear axles? Height of axles is the problem. Same issue for my JD tractor (850) and IHC tractors

Zehnx,
Good idea,
Do you put your hyraulic automotive jack or a bottle jack on top of the blocks or 2 x 4 boards. I used a friends very long hydraulic and high lift hydraulic jack. A very expensive tool but nice to use

I put a piece of 4 or so post of suitable length on end on top of one of my floor jacks to get it up and slide a stand I made out of 2x2 thin wall tubing up under the frame to support it while working on the rears. Do the same to the fronts but raising one at a time, don't bother with the frame for little things like taking a tire/wheel off. Didn't take an hour to fab up the frame out of scrap material I had sitting around.

There was a special attachment made for that. It'd be hard to find now, but it attached to the 3 point and fit under the rear axle. When the 3 point raised it rocked the tractor up and forward.

There was also an accesory that raised the front axle. Grandpa had the rear piece, but I don't recall ever seeing the front part. I sure wish I knew what happened to that thing.

Texasmark,
Good idea for raising and supporting the 8N. My IHC Super C has down pressure on the 3 point adapter I added to the tractor. It will raise back of the tractor.
Have enough welding equipment and left over metal from projects to make a support for the tractor.

Larry NCKS,
Very interesting tool that was special for lifting rear and front of the tractor.

Thanks, Sean! It doesn't look like it'd be terribly hard to fabricate if one knew the specs. OF course the length of the arms that go under the axle would have to be calculated for whatever size tractor and tire one had.

If the tires are the same size/weight, put a floor jack under the
center, jack it up and put jack stands under the axle on each side.
That does become an issue if you have one loaded rear tire and
one not loaded, but if they are close, you can rock it on the jack
to get it leveled on the stands.

Royce,
Good idea about using a floor jack and jack up the differential then support each side with a jack stand. Not sure if
my jack stands would extend high enough. Could make something for support of the axles.

X2 for Royce's jacking position. I then use a stand I built a couple years ago out of an old house basement jack. I cut down 4 of them & welded them to old brake discs. Very strong & fully adjustable!
