Looks like I will have to split my 1968 Ford 4000 diesel with dual range 8 speed manual transmission. I have a couple of hydraulic fluid leaks at the rear transmission case to center housing gasket, and the pedal shaft gasket. I'll also replace the PTO brake during this time as it's never worked. My question is once I disconnect the brake and clutch pedal rods and remove the bolts-nuts that secure the center housing to the transmission case then will it just slide apart or are there internal connections that require me to slip a tool inside to disconnect to prevent pulling something loose? I've never split a tractor so really don't know what to expect. Just wondering if there are are any non-obvious tricks to splitting it that I need to know. Can I leave the hydraulic top cover in place or does that have to come off too? Thanks in advance for any tips.
