Selecto speed

Looking at a selecto speed out of a 4000 ford he says the input shaft splines are bad been sitting in a building for 8 yrs as he remembers it shifted fine
what is it worth?

Depends on which version it is. There was, and maybe still is, an input shaft for one of them on eBay for about $125.00.

Bear in mind that there are two different input shafts for the single speed PTO SOS in the 4 cylinder 4000. There are two more for the dual speed/ground speed PTO 4 cylinders.

This is to say nothing about the 3 cylinder 4000 SOS tractors.

Make sure you know which version of the SOS you're looking at and that it will fit your application. I'd say no more than $200.00 if it's something you can work with.

Shifter and PTO cables are valuable if good. Shifter also has value.

Transmission with stripped input shaft scrap.

Am curious by what method Bern?
One way, of milling a hex on the end of the shaft and welding an impact socket in the hub of the clutch disc has been discussed here. Milling the shaft gets you below the case hardening and I suspect it would not last long even if it is rehardened. It might work for a while but I wouldn't give you more than a 'tail light' guarantee on that method.
The only alternative I can think of - of building up the shaft with stellite or some such and recutting the splines would not be inexpensive.

Agreed.

Still a SOS transmission with a stripped input shaft and nothing else is worth scrap.

Most of the ones that I have owned were given to me stripped input shaft or otherwise.

That was the method I was thinking of. I did one over 10 years ago, and last I heard it was still working just fine. He might not use it every day but he's happy with it.

I agree, UD.

I expect the hex socket fix is a short term repair for a user tractor.

OK for a collector tractor but I would not want to take one out to bale small squares.

I also did the 6 point socket deal from John Smith, probably ten years ago. It's hobby farming and still going
