Ford 3000 Select-O-Speed 3 point snowblower

I live in Keweenaw County were we get an average of 300 inches of snow a year. I was wondering if a Ford 3000 sos would work with a 3 point snowblower or is it two fast? I would be using it just for a back up to what I am using now. ( 54 in on a sub compact.) SOS has R1 & R2 reverse gears.

Lotta ifs there. How big's the snowblower? How deep of snow would you be working in? R1 may handle it provided the snow's not too deep or too wet and the blower isn't too wide.

I run a 7' blower on my 8 speed 3000 gas. It handles a light snow just great, & on a heavy snow that's what the clutch (in your case the "inching pedal") is for! Last winter I was blowing snow that was deeper than the blower!

I am looking at a 7 foot 3 point right now, but am holding off to what I hear on this forum. Generally from January to through Feb it snows every day. We get anywhere from 3 to 12 inches a day. We are the snowmobile capitol to Michigan.

I've used a 7 foot Allied on my 2000, 6 speed, non live PTO. Got the job done but when taking the full width I could not push it into more than about 5-6 inches depth.
It would die and I'd have to pull forward to get a run at it a few feet at a time. Once I got through it could take 1/3 of the width two feet or more. I use the blower
on my Oliver 1550 now and plow with the Ford.

I use a 7 on my gas 3000. No SOS, but it works fine. Its heavy if course. Have to ease into big drifts.

Based on tractordata.com, R1 on an SOS is 3.2mph. Nearly 50% faster than R1 on the 8 speed (2.2mph). Might be a bit quick.
Since you already have a 54 snowblower, Im thinking perhaps a rear grader blade for the Ford, maybe with end plates, might be a
bigger help. We use a blade, with home made end plates, to first pull snow away from garages and such, before plowing.

I'm at the East end of the UP with a
little less than half your annual. I have
a 8 speed trans 3000 with a 78 inch
blower.

Reverse at pto speed is adequate to about
10 inches of dry snow. Probably 6 inches
if it is wet.

When the snow is deeper and the tractor
starts to bog, I feather the clutch if it
is on the first pass or shift to a partial
width on following passes.

Much of our season is bitter cold and the
snow is lighter, working in our favor.
