dont work on fords much, neighbor has a 7710 that the rear axel seals both leak, so i imagine both axels need to be pulled and bearings and seals replaced. looking on
loine at the parts book, do i need to empty the entire axel housing to get to this seal or is it possible to just pull the axel out of it and renew from the outside like
the IH 66 series does??

Complete teardown, unstake seal from hsg, either rig puller or torch off outer brg. Seal is last part off and first part going back. Replace brake boots while in there.

we do clutches, tourques ect in Ih a lot, just not a ford guy. he wants some sort of estimate. how many hours are involved???

I'm not sure what book time is for that job, but I would figure around 3-4 hours or so in a well equipped shop, unless you have a crusty roll bar to deal with.

I figured. Biggest problem with a cab is heavy wheels if they're tucked in real tight. It's an accident waiting to happen without proper equipment.

Block the cab up and remove the back mount, no biggie.

Like Bern said the wheels and tires are usually the biggest headache.
