Standard vs Heavy duty front axle

Continuing the resurrection of my 860 I need to replace the center axle section. I am trying to determine if it is a standard axle or heavy duty. The parts manual references both. The pin is threaded into the axle bolster with a hex head. I see both this style and a threaded pin that had two tab like a pin spanner. The OD of both seems to be the same with only a slight difference in length. If I measure my axle compared to an 8N they appear to be the same.

Thanks once again for the vast knowledge shared here

Depends on what your doing. Years ago my dad had the Ford dealer put the heavy duty one on our 841S but it also has a heavy duty loader on it

I have a 1957 860 that I am fixing up. My pin is like you described (hex head and threaded) with a lock flange bolted over the hex head. As far as the have found out, the HD pin started in late 1957 and 1958 on up (part #312659). The HD is 44.4MM OD x 196.6MM L. STD is 44.4MM OD x 114.81MM in length. I hope this helps.
