641 Fuel Valve

Getting the tank ready for install. The fuel valve is a concern as I've read numerous posts about how these cheap Chinese valves leak. Has anyone out there tapped out the outlet hole in the tank for an npt elbow and plumbed a line with a remote valve? I'm thinking of trying it as the valve mounting plate is thick enough. I could run a braided fuel line to the sediment bowl including a fuel rated valve. I don't want to sway from the original look but I don't want to burn down my tractor either.

Recently, someone posted about making an aluminum adapter that bolts to the tank using the OEM bolts and O-ring. The adapter is threaded for an appropriately sized inverted flare steel line allowing one to bend one's own line so as to attach a shut off valve at the carburetor mounted sediment valve.

Poster indicated that he plans to make others once design is installed and tested.

That was me.

How did you machine the o-ring groove? I used to be able to do this stuff at work on a milling machine but I'm retired now and don't have access. Gotta leave a little clearance around the i.d. of the o-ring for extrusion when it is all tightened up.

It has been on my 641 now since mid April. No problems. The inline valve is made in the USA and is solid brass, Very heavy. I bought the valve off ebay.

I have been selling the aluminum adapter plate on ebay. Have sold six to eight with no complaints yet. On ebay I sell the adapter with o-ring. Or adapter with o-ring and brass 1/4 tube fitting with screen. Same fitting that fits in the carb on an 8n Ford.

I am now working on another version for my 62 4000 RC. It uses a 5/16 fuel line where the 641 uses a 1/4 line. I modified a valve for a John Deere 4020 to fit. I removed the stand pipe and fitted a screen. The John Deere valve is the only valve I could find that uses a 5/16 flared line.

I'm not sure there is enough room under the 641 fuel tank for the 4020 valve to fit. If it did fit the strainer on the carburetor would have to be changed to the larger 5/16 tube version.

I have not been able to find your with an eBay search, all I am finding are the usual made in China junk valves. Your solution appears to address the problem with the valves. Have you approached the admins at this website to see about selling your valve thru this website?

Thank you. The brass valve I use I order from flywheel-supply.com Item number 170. 1/4 compression both ends $9.93. Good heavy valve made in the USA.
