I have a 1965 Ford 4000 3 cyl diesel.
I am considering switching from the generator to an alternator. Can someone please explain
What the benefits are?

If the present system is working theres no benefit
I have converted most of mine over that had quit charging or needed retired
Down side to the Delco conversion alternators is their tach drive makes the Ford tack read 2/300 rpm fast

A couple of advantages of alternator (assuming one with internal regulator): You get rid of the troublesome generator regulator and increase the capacity if you want to add more lights or other 12 volt equipment

Pretty much if it ain't broke don't fix
it. A diesel doesn't need any more amps
unless you are using heavy accessories.

At least twenty years ago I acquired an
alternator for my 851 because I was sure
it would crap out soon. This year I had
to replace the vr. My fault it fried so
I replaced it. To be honest I have no
idea where the alternator I was sure I
would need is now. Lol
