ford 600 series gas

The main reason I converted was because I couldn't find a voltage regulator that worked (went through three of them). Other reasons are, the modern one wire alternator just works better and 12 volt batteries are a little cheaper than 6 volt.

Thank you all. When you changed, did you go to negative ground? And if so, what other changes were required?

Negative ground Delco 10SI alternator like used in a 1980 Chevy pickup no A/C no power anything cost around $50. Change the 2 small wires on the coil and add a ballast resister

Dad's 1958 641, that he bought new, still has the 6V system with the original generator (rebuilt) and starter (untouched). Starts well in the coldest of Ohio winters. I just like the look of the original generator. I think a key is to find a local (old fashion) auto electrics shop that truly understands how these systems work and can be tested and repaired. The car parts chains are generally not your friends here (I'm sure there are a few exceptions).
