Hey ya'll,

We are fixin to get an additional (80's-1999) Ford 4000 series thru Ford 5000 series 4wd tractor..., ideally open cab, and able to handle a front end loader.

We loved our 1989 Ford 3910...and our Ford 5610...both trusty and reliable tractors. ( We loved that both the battery and fuel tanks sit high). If anyone can share with us any other specific Ford models that have proven to be reliable, reasonable to work on & to find parts...that you suggest we consider, please let me know. Or Tractor models to avoid like the plague!)

The main purpose of the tractor... for running brush cutter rotary mowers, moving tree limbs, through the woods, sometimes steep.

Thanks for any advice
Bless ya'll

I have a few of the older 4000/5000 models but have takin a liking to the 4600/5600/6600 models which still have good parts support for major components, but some items are no longer available.
For a 4x4 tractor I'd look at a 5610/6610 series II that was built 87-93, that's when Ford changed to hydrostatic steering and got away from the problematic integral power steering sector. It was ok on 4x2 models but was known to fail on 4x4 models with loaders
6610 is same tractor as 5610 but has larger engine and more hp
If your looking for one slightly smaller a 4630 is a good choice also with hydrostatic steering, but I'd stay away from the 8x8 shuttle shift transmission, properly maintained it's a good transmission but it was made by Kubota how no longer supports parts for them and there's no aftermarket support as well
Although the newer synchro shift transmission are nice repairing them can be costly, the old tried and true 8x2 is my transmission of choice with dual power being a desired option.
The 93/up 5610S/6610S have the newer Power Star engines and appear to be solid tractors as well

Thanks so much for your guidence. Yes, while perusing the forum, i saw where it was mentioned that the kubota made parts Ford Tractor models were not a good idea. I will review your suggestions. I hope others chime in as well.

I'll second what Destroked said! 8)

Two things to look for on the tractor:
#1, Dual hydraulic pumps, or loader operation will be sloooow!
#2, Dual power auto hi/lo.
Additionally, I would opt for 18.4 x 30 rear tires over 15.5 x 38

Many thanks for your tips & advice Shetland,
I will look into all this. Good to know about the pumps for loaders, as I am not too familiar with the technical elements regarding pumps. But I know how frustrating it is when the bucket doesn't respond...
