961 Ford: Runs good, excellent oil pressure, compression from front to back, 120, 110, 90, 85. Problem: Right on start up it smokes out of the breather on the side of the valve cover. On a strong pull, it smokes like a steam engine. Plugs are not wet. Someone said it could be that the holes in head to return oil back to crankcase are plugged. Any suggetions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Could be a bad head gasket letting the last 2 cylinder leak over to each other but not so bad as to let them not run

My 961 was doing that. It was steam from the condensation inside the block diluting the motor oil from sitting a long time. New oil change and filter cured that problem.
If yours is actual smoke instead of steam, that's a bigger problem.

Yeah, just blowby and burning off condensation. I ''cured'' mine by removing that breather cap, closing off the vent hole and installing a 3/8'' barbed fitting to it. Then I ran a hose around the back of the engine to the vacuum port on the intake manifold (with an inline PCV valve) to suck all those fumes back into the engine for a second burn. All for .0000003% the cost of an engine rebuild!
