Hello,
I am new to the site. I was told when I bought this tractor that
it was a Ford 3000 but it doesnt have any marking on it. I
have the 3 sets of numbers behind the starter but havent had
much luck deciphering them. The first/top number is 6C16B
the second/middle number is C256 and the third/bottom
number is B*039424* any help would be appreciated. Thanks
in advance.

B*039424* is the serial number. The B at the beginning says that it was assembled at the plant in Basildon in the UK. It is a fairly low "export" serial number, meaning that it was built to be sold outside the UK. The export serial numbers for the Basildon plant started at 000001 and went up from there, while the "domestic" serial numbers started at 800001 and went up from there.

The early European tractors didn't always have all of the numbers stamped in the standard locations.

6C16B is a date code for March 16, 1966 day shift, which is when either the transmission or the tractor itself was assembled.

C256 doesn't make any sense. Try looking on the similar flat spot on the opposite side of the tractor and post back any numbers you find there.

That doesn't mean anything either. Can you post some pictures of the tractor? One from the front showing the grill and front axle and another from the rear showing the full width of the rear axle would help us be able to narrow it down. Also, on the right side of the engine block, down below the large C5NN6015 casting number, there should be a smaller stamped number on the flat rail just above the oil pan. That is the engine serial number. If that starts with an "N" or a "C" then the engine was made for a 3000 series tractor.

It certainly looks like a 3000, but I think that the engine was swapped out at some point. The 1966 date code on the transmission matches the earlier style louvered hood and wrap around lower grill and the rear axle is from a 3000. The D at the beginning of the engine serial number indicates that the engine is from a 4000 series tractor and it was made after 4/1/1968.

Are there any letters off to the right of the C7NN6015?

C7NN6015T is a 201 ci diesel block, so it is definitely an engine from a 4000 series tractor, and the rest of the tractor looks like it is all original 1966 3000 parts, so I would have to say that it is a 1966 3000 that has had the engine swapped with a later 4000 series diesel engine.
