towing sos ford

I am acquiring an sos tractor that is not runnable at this time and I remember there is a way to tow it when not running. I owned such 50
years ago, but never had this issue. I seem to remember there is a disconnect somewhere that releases it for towing. I do remember the
transmission locks when the engine shuts off. Don't ask how I know. Can anyone shed some light on this ? Thanks for any and all help

There is a traction disconnect.

Where it is and how to use it depends upon year and model.

As stated, there is a traction disconnect. Look for a two-position lever on the rear axle about inline with the forward end of the pinion shaft.

Yes. Model # would be helpful. Typically on the left side of center housing on pre-'65 models, and on the right on '65 and later models.

on my 4000 4cyl. it uses a 11/16 wrench to remove the nut. Then flip the lock over. I keep an old one in the tool box just in case it ever dies out in the field. Al

Not sure what an old one does if it dies . . . unless you're afraid of losing one??? Just remove nut and keeper strap and flip the eccentric clockwise (rocking rear wheel or a 12 " adjustable end wrench will help in the process).

Ha! Ha! Bern. I challenge you to find parts claiming to be for a '58 671!

True, but serial numbers and date codes on the transmission casings themselves show that some were made in late '58.

Doesn't say they weren't called '59 models. CNH parts shows SOS parts beginning 1 of 59.
