Ford 5000 differential locker rod

Good Morning,

I have a leak coming from the differential locker rod coming out the side of the tractor. The scraper seal that the rod rides in is worn out and needs replaced. I am having a hard time finding the replacement part. Does anyone have a part number? I Appreciate the help!

I was brush hogging and noticed the brush hog started to slow and the hydraulics stopped working. I checked the sight plug and noticed it was low, so figured it would be a good time to change the fluid (Bought tractor 2 days before). I changed the fluid and filled to the sight hole. I made about 5 laps around the field and noticed it doing the same thing again. Only wet spots I can see is from there and the brake link boot. Along with that pretty sure I smoked the pto clutch. I noticed there was smoke coming from the fill hole and the PTO wont shut off.

I would agree, it sounds like you smoked your PTO clutch. Where exactly is the level sight hole you were using? Again, if it's leaking past the diff lock shaft, I gotta think it's overfilled.

Working on taking the top plate off to check/replace the fiber rings in the clutch. The sight plug I filled it to is on the left side of the PTO if you are looking at it from the rear. Same type of plug as the drain plugs for the hydraulics and trans. I couldn't see any fluid pouring out from that shaft or the brake rod boot just, so guess it is mainly leaking when it is driving.

I remember the check plug on a 5k being on the left hand side, but on rear side of the axle, not in front. And the transmission has its own check plug and/or dipstick on the fill plug as the trans is separate from the hydraulics and rearend. As Bern says,, the brake rod boots will usually leak first as the rubber is 50 years old. Not a hard job to pop new boots in.
