two speed PTO

Pretty much all of the bigger Fords do. You just swap out the shaft at the back. They sell them here at YT.

9000 tractors only came with 1000 PTO from the factory, however some were converted in the field to two-speed. The easiest way to tell what you have is to remove the top link bracket above the PTO shaft and see whether you have a single or double gearset underneath said bracket.

Find your model number... it will be near the serial number you found.
A 9000 with 540/1000 will have a 5 as the next to last character, while a 1000 rom only model will have an 8 as the next to last digit.

Interesting. I didn't know you could get a 9000 with 540 from the factory.

To the OP, regardless of your model code, it's best to verify what you have visually.

thank you very much, it turns out i have a 1000 PTO. What parts would I need to order to change to 540 PTO?

Gears #55 and 64, along with the shaft of course.

I doubt the gears are available new anymore, and even if they were, they'd be obscenely expensive from NH. Best bet is to look around in a salvage yard.
