Hello all, I saw somewhere that the first 1959 sos trannies did not have a filter, is this true, reason i am asking is i have a 1959 and it has a filter, maybe it was upgraded? is that possible?

I believe that they all had a filter from day 1, it's just that it was internal until 1965. Even then, the filter was internal, however it
was externally accessible. The only SOS with an external filter would have been on the 6000 models.

If memory serves my right, the very first S.O.S did not have a filter but, it wasn't long early in the first year of introduction that Ford furnished a kit to put the filter
in it.. The question was asked at the time how the oil would be cooled when being interrupted through the filter to sump rather then spraying at the tin top cover

Agreed, but most (all?) were retrofitted.

The question was, indeed, a good one.
