I am new to 3pt hitch usage. It is my understanding when plowing with 3pt plow, I do not use the stablizer bars on either side of the 3pt. Is this correct? I only plow in straight lines, if that makes a different. Maybe I should say I TRY to only plow in straight lines. Thanks all

You are correct , you do not use anything but the 3 point hitch when using a 3 pt mounted plow. Proper wheel spacing and getting the plow set up/adjusted right is important to doing a good job.

As a new N-Owner, do you have The ESSENTIAL MANUALS to fully understand your tractor and how to use the implements? NO STABILIZER BARS used when plowing. Plowing takes practice first of all. What tractor and plow models are you using? Does your Dearborn or Ford Plow have the rolling landside (tailwheel)? A plow cannot track straight without it. Always look forward. When the 3-pt system was first developed and operated commercially (1939 F-F 9N) farmers tended to always be trying to look back and watch where they had been like when they used their old pull-type implements. This resulted in rows all over the place and if cultivating, would run into rows of young crops and destroy them. The Ford Tractor 9N and 8N manuals have instructions for plowing. They are the same anywhere no matter if an 9N, an 860, or a 4000. The different models have different adjusting methods but all plowing is basically the same. Sharp points are required. Plow shares are getting harder to find new as farming methods these days are built on the no-till idea so not many farms actually plow anymore. Light discing or cultivating is preferred before planting. The plows varied in engineering over the years. The Ferguson-Sherman Plow used an offset cross-shaft (like a crankshaft), the later Dearborn Moldboard Plow used a straight cross-shaft bar, and the Dearborn (Later FORD) Economy Plow use an 'L' shaped cross-shaft which was much improved from previous designs. The later 101 and 150 Series made plows more operator friendly with a reach-behind adjusting lever and a shear-bolt/breakaway bottom design. Might want to get the correct manuals for your tractor AND plow first and read thoroughly.

I read somewhere that the word delirious derived from or described about someone who couldn't plow straight. My father taught me to pick a post or something straight across the field and keep my eyes on it, don't look back.
