I have a heavy and steady leak from the kotter pin hole of hydraulic fluid when the tractor is running. Additionally, my PTO is not working. This model has the independent PTO. Its hard for me to say if these two things started at the same time, however it is a possibility that they did. Fluid levels in the Trans resevoir are lower than the fill to hole, and the fluid level in the rear hydraulic resevoir is full to the fill hole. Based on my research, I likely need to split the tractor and repair the busted seal(s) in the front of the transmission. Could these busted seals have anything to do with the PTO not working? The three point hitch is working, but is very sensitive.. small movements of the lever cause large up and down movements in the three point hitch attachements (bushhog).

The low fluid in the transmission is likely what is leaking out of the cotter pin hole. It should have nothing to do with the PTO not working.

The 3 point hydraulic pump in the right side of the rear axle center housing is really two pumps inside one housing. The larger front part drives the 3 point lift. The smaller rear section drives the hydraulics that control the PTO clutch. It may be that there's a leak in one of the lines for the PTO hydraulic circuit, or a leak in the clutch pack itself, or that rear section of the pump is worn.

The touchiness on the 3 point lift itself is another issue altogether. Do you have the small lever set for position or draft control mode? Your description of the problem sounds like it may be in draft control mode. If it is in position control mode and still acts touchy like that, then it could be worn and/or out of adjustment internal control linkage.

The 5000 has a little nylon line that runs from the pump up to the pto, it is famous for rupturing. I have replaced many of them with copper tubing, and appropriate fittings. If that is the case, make sure you put a full loop in the copper line for vibration. As mentioned above, the other problem could be the clutch pack. Either way, the top cover has to be lifted off. Remember their is a bolt hidden under the right side rockshaft housing.
