I have a Ford 900 series row crop with
tricycle front end, weight box, and power
adjust rims. It says 960 above the serial
number by the starter. Is it a 961 or a
960. It is a gasoline motor. The guy we got
it from a very long time ago said it sucked
to much gas to make any money. It doesn't
say power master on it and paint looks to
be original and has power steering on the
left side if your sitting in the seat.
Serial number is 38209

If it says 960 above the serial number, at least the transmission is from a 960! I've not seen a 900 or 901 with power steering on the left side when seated though... As KC said the 901's have different fenders and grill- being a perforated inner screen with the outer squareish trim piece. Here is a 961-D.

Thanks guys! The grille is not the egg carton style like/or the one shown in the picture with the wide front end the grille looks like the same one on my Ford 650. I'm waiting on a couple pics from the old man of power steering pump placement and a shot of the grille. The old man and I are having quite the debate on 960/961.

Is that the same tractor in both pictures?

I see a power adjust rim in the lower picture, but the rim in the top picture is not.

The air cleaner tube appears to be an early one, consistent with a 960.

The pump mounted on the left side is a new one, it's farm engineered for who knows what reason. Where's the generator/alternator?

the grill is consistent with a 960.

If '960' is stamped in the bell housing, it's hard to argue that it's anything else...

Same tractor just one pic I was 5 years old
and she was running the other pic is from
last week when we pulled her out to take to
barn for restoration. The non power adjust
rim is a spare since the original rotted
away from being loaded and needed a good
rim/tire to transport. Thanks guys and all
the time and knowledge is greatly
appreciated!

Looks like a 900 series to me. I can't see the height of the clutch
pedal or the linkage to tell if it's a 950 or a 960, but if the bell
housing says 960, I would assume so.
Based on the flat floor boards, I'd guess a 1955 model.
The 901's first model year was 1958. (production started in 1957)
The weight box, if it's full of original weights, is worth almost as
much as the tractor is if you were looking to resell them.

Thanks! 960 it is then! Yes the weight box is full of
original weights we pulled the cover off to
make sure (also full of ants lol). We were
under the impression that the 1 in 961
meant tricycle front end. Everytime we talk
to guys about the weight box they all say
the same thing as you mentioned. It's a 5
speed and I believe it has the lever or 2
position clutch or whatnot and also has the
live pto. Thanks guys I always leave
knowing more than I could of ever imagined
was possible. Thanks again guys for all of
the great information shared and your time
taken to answer a novice tractor
enthusiasts questions.
We have a 9n and 650 running and the 960
and a MM RTU not running and will be our
project tractors where we can learn even
more. Luckily parts are pretty easy to come
by for the 960 not so much for the MM RTU.
Thanks again!!!!

No doubt not sure if it adds to the value or detracts but will definitely be part of the conversation when the project is complete and we are able to take to some shows. It somewhat looks like the kit that walts tractors sell based on the oil reservoir lid but the power steering pump has been installed probably from the beginning or early 60's. Thanks for the reply

I just looked at the pump seems like it could be oem. But the brackets seem homemade. Not sure why the previous owner switched it to the other side.
