3600 hydraulic issues

i have a diesel 3600. this weekend i was using the tractor with a big disc. position / draft controls worked as they should. tonight, leaving
the field i used the position control to lift/transport the disc. the position control lifted the disc very slow, like it was low on oil. the
draft side of the system lifts the disc like it should. i changed the hydraulic filter. it didn't make a difference. the tractor has plenty
of oil. i assume the system uses the same cylinder for both draft and position. the adjustment of the flow control doesn't seem to make a
difference in speed for position control. the position control lever doesn't feel as crisp in it's movement as it did this morning. anyone
have a idea why draft would work and position won't? thanks for the help

position control lifts the disc, just real slow. the position control handle feels funny at the top and seems like it does not want to stay there. the system worked great all day. i can't believe i bent /damaged it that easy. i've had this tractor about 12 years. the disc was heavy and may have bounced a few times crossing the field. but i agree. something needs adjustment.

yes it does. very slowly. on the right side of the tractor there is a flow control for hyd system. i've never had any reason to adjust it. this morning i found knob/handle broke in 2 pieces, but still attached to the shaft. i'm gonna make some room in the shop and pull the cover. i understand the system on my 860. this one i'm not to sure of. maybe after i pull cover things will make sense to me. thanks

There's an override plunger for the flow control that is activated when you pull the lever clear to the top. Sounds like whatever does that with the position lever is no longer functioning. Combined with the fact that you say something doesn't feel right in the handle, I think pulling the cover is the next best step.

What you could do before you pull the cover is pull the plate on the LH side of the rear axle and peer inside while you have someone manipulate the handles. You should be able to clearly see the override plunger linkage moving.

i appreciate the help. i'll see if i can identify those pieces in my shop manual and have a look. thank you. it sounds like a good place to start.

that really helps a lot. it will probably be a couple days before i get the cover off. i'll let you know what i find. i really appreciate your help bern.

i pulled the cover and found the linkage . it was as you described. it didn't appear to be damaged/bent. the plunger was however a little sticky in the bore due to some scale. the cam in top cover controlled by the quadrant levers only seems to turn with the draft lever. is this correct? i'll check the adjustment on position control spool next. thanks bern

I *believe* the flow control override feature works in position control as well as draft, although I cannot be certain of that. I suspect the owner's manual might clarify. Or maybe someone else here knows?

i took the quadrant apart. position control rod runs inside of draft tubing. appears not to change cam position in position control, unless i overlooked something. thanks bern
