I have a carb taken apart from a Ford 600. My question is if there are some spots you are not to paint...seems like a drain of some type on the air inlet....maybe for freezing? Looks almost like copper wire plug or something. I plan to replace needle and seat but rest of the carb looks good but I probably need to remove the throttle and choke plates/linkages and then try to tape over the holes for those locations and the adjustment screw holes. I just plan to spray paint it with can paint as it's my last item to paint....any advise is appreciated.
 
That is a sintered bronze weep plug. Spray some cleaner through the hole inside and if it doesn't come out of the plug replace it. Tape it up before painting.
 
It depends on what kind of a job/work you want to do. You can do the $20 Earl Scheib job or a professional job. I rebuild M/S Carbs in my sleep and do a professional job. All parts are disassembled, inside and out, soaked for days, then the two halves go to the media blaster. After cleaning passages, air blasting, the two halves are assembled with old parts and masking tape to prep for paint. Never drill out or ream the carb air and fuel orifices. Use pipe cleaners old guitar strings. Plenty of carb cleaner soakings will loosen up any crud. Use an old gasket in between. And I made my own solid wood gasket for the intake manifold flange and insert two eye bolts in order to hang for the paint booth. Suspend on a rack via eye bolts and apply your paint. I use several coats of paint over a few days with 2-3 coats per day. NOTE: I never paint the inside of the carb halves. Once satisfied with the external appearance, remove all plugs, tae, and prep for the new parts. USE ALL NEW internal and external parts on re-assembly. HINT: I use a Crafstman Chisel to insert and remove the Main Needle Jet. It has a wide slot and a standard screwdriver will usually booger up the slot and make it hard to remove. The chisel has a wide enough blade to do the job correctly. Also, use a ratchet drive and deep well socket to remove and insert the Main Needle Nozzle. After all new parts are inserted, set throttle, idle air, and main needle jet to initial specs as stated in your OEM Manual and/or your I&T Manual.
