Ford 9000 rearend fluid level

The original subject was ford 9000 rear-end fluid level.

I am new to the forum and recently purchased a Ford 9000 tractor. I'm using some of the information from this forum to help with changing fluids, repairing leaks, etc. I drained the oil from both the transmission/rear end and the PTO housing using the drain plug information in the reply below. The tractor has dual power and I believe a combined transmission rear end since I only found one drain plug on the bottom of the casing. Tractor #C?8254, Model #H201M and unit #1107B.
A few questions:
1) I found the level plugs and the drain plugs for both the transmission/rear end and the PTO housing and the fill plug for the rear end. I am unable to find a separate fill plug for the PTO housing. While draining the PTO housing I loosened the rear end filler plug near the hydraulic connections. The oil ran faster without gurgling when the fill plug was out. Could it be that the same fill plug works for both the rear end and the PTO?
2) I refilled the transmission/rear end until it ran out of the level plug which is slightly below the hydraulic filter opening. This took about 10 gallons. There is another plug or bolt just above the elevation of the hydraulic filter, but I'm guessing that is not for the rear end/transmission level
3) When I drained the PTO housing, I removed about 6 gallons of fluid. The service manual says the PTO takes 4 quarts. I'm concerned because it appears the PTO shares a fill opening with the rear end/transmission and the oils are different.
4) After draining the PTO housing, I put my finger into the drain opening and felt some loose hard parts. I removed a spring about 4 long and a piece of copper stock about 5 long, 1/4wide and about 3/32 thick. The spring reminds me of a brake spring and the copper piece appears to be almost a semi circle ring shape with some texture in the metal. I have pictures of the pieces but have not figured out how to up load photos
5) I looked on line and found fluid recommendations which lists 134D oil and 17.3 gallons for the transmission and rear end combined
6) I have also found references that say the 9000 only comes with 1000rpm PTO. Mine has a 540rpm shaft and it runs my small square baler great.
7) I tried looking up the year using the tractor number, but the ? in the number is actually a scratch in the nameplate and I'm unable to read the number

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

unit #1107B cannot be correct. The second character must be a letter. My guess to the closest possible match would be 1J07B, which would mean that it left the assembly line on September 7, 1971 during the day shift.

Model #H201M is also not correct. H20 is a 9000 row crop model. The 1 says that it has a diesel engine, and the M at the end means that it has an 8 speed transmission with dual power, but there should be another numeral before the M. If it has independent 540 rpm PTO that missing numeral would be a 4. If it is a 1000 rpm PTO it would be an 8.

Don't know what to tell you on the spring you pulled out. The copper-looking piece is a thrust washer. Suggest not using the PTO until you get that replaced. There's 3 of them total, #63 in the link below.

The PTO reservoir is supposed to be separate from the rear axle/trans, but it definitely sounds like it's not. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, as most people don't even know that the PTO reservoir is separate, which then tends to run low on oil.

The 9000 came from the factory as a 1000 PTO-only machine, but someone has since converted it to two-speed. Easy to do.
Thrust washer

Thank you for helping decipher the tractor codes. I relooked at the codes with better light and found the following additional letters and numbers as you
suggested
Model H2018M
Unit 1I01B
Engine 1J21A
Is this still a 1971 model?

Thanks for the help

A few new details after I studied the shop manual and the tractor a little closer
1) There are three (3) drain plugs along the transmission, rear end and PTO housing
The front most one on the transmission
The middle one for the rear end
The rear most one with recessed head for the PTO gear box
2) The spring and part of the thrust washer came out of the middle drain for the rear end
3) When I found the correct plug to drain the PTO, I removed about a gallon of water contaminated fluid. I'm assuming I need to add the fluid through the level plug since I am not able to find a fill plug for the PTO gear box
4) What type of oil does the PTO gear box use? My shop manual lists the same oil as the transmission/rear end so the 134D?
5) Is the thrust washer replaceable without splitting the tractor or do I need to take it to the shop?
Thanks for the help and advice again

The second character in the unit code cannot be an I. Ford did not use that letter to identify the month. The code is: A = January, B = February, etc. all the way to M = December. What you think is an I is most likely a J, which would be September. And yes, it's still a 1971 model regardless because of the first digit which is #1.

First we'd better figure out where that thrust washer came from. Please try and post some pics of said washer and spring, sitting next to a quarter or a nickle for size reference.
