861 Oil Pressure

Hey guys, What is the normal operating oil pressure of an 861 diesel? 172 cubic inch... After an oil change it's at 60 psi cold. While mowing or baling it operates at 40-45 when
hot. Now with 50 hours on that oil change it drops to about 30 psi when hot. Heading for 25 psi. I used 10w 40 rated for diesel. I know oil thins out when it gets used. Whats the
lowest psi that is safe. I'm running around 1800 rpm. I'm thinking the PO rebuilt the motor , but used the old oil pump. There is no blowby or bearing knock. Good compression ,
she kicks right off... Ok gents... what do you all think? Appreciate all comments. Thanks... Darryl

While you MIGHT have a worn oil pump, any warm pressure drop is USUALLY loose main/rod bearings, not the pump. I have a really tired 871 diesel that drops to 15 PSI hot, and barely moves the needle at idle.

As long as you have 10 you're good. My 851 drops to 20. GM used to use a 7psi switch to turn on the oil light.

Leaking fuel return rail or injection pump seal is suspect. Send a lube oil sample for analysis for fuel dilution and bearing metal.

Yeah, i had thought about leaking fuel as i had changed injectors a few years back. But the oil level doesn't rise on the dipstick, and i don't see red from the non-road diesel i am using. I know just a little can dilute it enough to be a problem, and i may not see the red dye. Don't know where i would send a sample...

Thanks for the info on test kits. Will give it a try. Thanks to all who responded. The people on here are always great. I always learn something.
