Thermostat vs no thermostat

Do you really need a thermostat? Wouldnt the tractor just be running cool all the time (it wouldnt get to temp that fast). I dont think I have one on hand, but I think Im good for this 7710/ 6610.

Generally engines run better, stronger, and more efficiently with less chance of sludge and film when kept running towards the upper end of their operating range. Running cool is not good. This is all more true with a diesel than gas engine. Diesels can be just plain hard to keep up in their range even with a thermostat. When I had my IH dump truck with C-15 Cat it would go literally days without the cooling fan even coming on.

Lemme put it to you this way....if you decide to run without a thermostat, after a few years of doing that, pull your rocker cover off and
see if you can even find some of the head bolts. You'll be scooping out the sludge with your fingers.

If cooler was better, manufacturers would not be using thermostats in the first place.

What year model is the tractor or engine
Ford changed the cooling system around 87 adding in a coolant bypass that recirculates the coolant when the thermostat is closed
A flat disc on the bottom of the thermostat closes off the bypass as the thermostat opens
Running without this thermostat can cause a overheating issue

What he said... yes it can and will overheat if its the newer design,,, when you put it under load. SO I would run a thermostat. Drop it down to a 180 if your gun shy.

Its either a 82 or 83 gen 1. I think I might have had a 158 in it or something before.
