Wider tires

I just installed a front loader on my Ford 3000 tractor. It has 5.50x16 tires (practically new) but I'm worried they may not be enough to work with that loader. Do any of you know if I can upgrade the tires
to 6.50x16 or something wider? 6 ply? Thanks...

in loose soils its common around here to run old truck tires with the rims turned out... 235/85/r16s.. these wide tires keep the tractor from sinking so bad. However you will hopefully have power steering as they can steer a bit harder with a heavy load in the bucket.

I found these 11Lx15s & a set of wagon rims on local cgslst. There isn't much clearance from the spindle, but enough & they really work nice with that heavy blade. Tractor also looks much better now than it did when this was taken!

On my 3000 with a 730 loader Ive always had either 6.00 or 6.50-16 tires. Ive bent some front suspension components but have never had any front tires issues with the loader.

650x16 6 ply is a listed tire for the 3000. Problem with getting larger tires is the OD gets larger and raises the front end such that the tractor doesn't sit level. No biggie, just something to expect. For loader work I like a fat tire with a short sidewall like come on todays new tractors. Gives you a better soil footprint with the width and the short sidewall doesn't squirm as much when turning under a load.

Additionally I'd ensure that your brakes are in good working order and use them when making reasonably sharp turns under load. Keep your king pins and steering joints greased. PS is a plus. Having a load on the 3 pt. takes a lot of load off the front end so have something back there when possible.

I bought a 63 4000 once and it had the front axle, at the pivot welded ......and had a loader..........
