ford 801 selecto speed transmisson

Plenty of people have replaced the trans and rear end of a S-O-S tractor with the trans and rear from a 4 or 5 speed tractor. I don't think I've seen a non-tractor trans used, but I have seen non-tractor engines used with adapter plates between the engine and tractor trans, like the Funks and other home made conversions, so I guess you could go the other way around and use a truck trans mated up to the tractor engine. The only issue I see is that the trans on the tractor is a stressed part of the frame, where a truck trans is not, so the truck trans would have to be supported by some sort of external framing that takes up the stress between the engine and the rear axle.

Why would you put a truck transmission in it? It is fairly easy to change the transmission, you will need the flywheel, transmission backing plate that mounts to the engine, and clutch to do it though. I have a good 5 spd with 2 stage clutch in nebraska I'd sell cheap if you are interested.

Just get from the tranny back or a donor tractor. No problems this way for parts needed. I have done this converting a 981 to a 961.

I have a 981 with an SOS that I would like to convert to a 5 speed and I am in Nebraska. Could you let me know your contact info or send an email. Maybe I can buy it from you.
