I bought a 2000 3cyl gas. It is supposed to be overhauled with a new clutch. THere was some gear grinding so I adjusted the clutch and it is ok now, but I am at the end
of the adjustment. The engine certainly appears to have been overhauled. I would think the clutch would have been replaced like I was told. I would hate to think I got
slickered, but I am at the end of the adjustment on the clutch rod. Could anyone measure theirs and tell me the correct length of the rod. Mine is 25 inches from the
center hole in back to the end of the clutch rod. This tractor has some hours and some hard use. I am hoping that maybe the rod was replaced with a different part
that worked. Appreciate any help. Maybe someone has a NOS rod and can tell me how long it is supposed to be. Thanks all.

(quoted from post at 23:18:21 08/21/21) I bought a 2000 3cyl gas. It is supposed to be overhauled with a new clutch. There was some gear grinding so I adjusted the clutch and it is ok now, but I am at the end

The external adjustment is for clutch pedal free-play. It's possible your clutch was not fully disengaging and by adjusting your pedal, you now are disengaging the clutch slightly more.

The pedal though, should be adjusted to the correct amount of free-play. Make sure your clutch adjustment rod is not bent.

Not fully disengaging can be caused by several things
Sticky clutch (though new should not have this problem unless already oil soaked)
Release levers not correctly adjusted (unfortunately, not an uncommon occurrence nowadays on new pressure plates)
Dragging clutch shaft due to several different reasons
Bad clutch shaft bearing or bushing
Bent clutch shaft
Other less common reasons

Does your tractor have a single stage clutch or a two stage clutch? (Live / non live pto)
If live pto, gear shift or SOS transmission?

Mine is single stage, no live pto. I don't even see a rod as short as mine and it is too long, unless those thing are measured with the adjustable clevis. IT says
assembly so maybe so.

I adjusted it 2 turns and it made a world of difference. My concern is because there isn't any adjusment left. I am wondering if when they put it together it was the thing you said about not being positioned right.

if it helps to know, when I disconnect the clutch lever from the rod, it has a pretty good swing before it hits resistance. I am guessing a couple inches.

If you're referring to the lever that moves the fork for your release bearing, you are probably just moving the fork further back away from the bearing requiring all that travel to get back to the bearing. When hooked up and under normal operation, it doesn't travel that far back, no need to. If your release bearing has internal return springs, be careful swinging the lever back beyond it's normal range. Hate to see the return springs become unhooked.
