Another ID Please

Not mine, but a guy a few hundred miles from me trying to learn more about a tractor he inherited.
Told him where to check for serial numbers. He says 3 speed....doesn't sound right.

Looks like an 801 series with that separate piece around the grill. They were only available with the 4 or 5 speed manual transmissions or the Select-O-Speed 10 speed powershift trans. If he claims it has 3 speeds then it is probably a 4 speed, which would most likely make it an 841. But it could be a 5 speed and he's just not pushing it down far enough to find the bottom two gears, or the little flip-up lockout could be preventing that, which could make it an 851 or 861. Ask him for a picture showing the shifter, as they are different between the 4 and 5 speed models.

The lack of gap between the steering wheel and dash looks like 800/801.
The grill looks like 801. Lack of power steering could be either.
I agree with the others, that tractor wouldn't have a three speed.
At least, not three forward speeds plus reverse as commonly defined.
From what little I can see of the shifter, I would guess it's an 841.

Agree with other probably an 801 '58/'62. Tell him to clean up top cover should be a 4 speed. Also model and serial number above the two hole behind the starter.

Got him doing all the above, and when he gets back to the tractor he'll relay the findings to me.
As soon as model is verified he's going to get a manual for it.
Heck, he may even join us here.
Thanks to all for the great help.
