I am changing my transmission and hydraulic fluid in my ford 3000. I have read that you can put the same fluid in both places. If so is 303 ok for the 3000? Thank you.

I have read that 303 is BANNED in a few states, because it is junk. I thought it was eliminated by now. I read the bad reviews , here on YT. Maybe they have changed the formula?
Tractor supply sells a better hydraulic oil for like 10 bucks more for a 5 gallon pail. Just my opinion.... Darryl

That stuff is junk, I once opened a new bucket and mostly water came out, then hydraulic fluid. Tractor supply sells the utf.

I use the Travelers brand from TSC in my 3000. It was something like 35$ per 5 gallon bucket, and I needed 2 buckets.

Ive also used the VP Racing J20A from TSC in my 730 loader. I think that was a little cheaper, like around 30$ per 5 gallon bucket. That seems to be doing fine as well.

True John Deere 303 fluid has been banned since the 1970's because it contained Whale oil. There are a number of current brands of fluid that have 303 in their name or in their list of specifications that they claim to meet or exceed. None of them are the same as the original JD 303 fluid. It depends on which specific fluid that folks are calling "303" fluid as to what is actually in it and what other specifications it may meet or exceed.

To 4eyes - Find a fluid that says that it meets or exceeds the Ford/New Holland M2C134D specification and you will be fine. That specification is newer than your tractor, and it is better in some respects than the original fluids specified by Ford, but it does tend to absorb water over time from humidity and condensation, so you either need to work the tractor hard enough on a regular basis for the trans and hydraulic fluids to get hot enough to evaporate off the water, or change the fluid more often than the maintenance schedule calls for.

Stuff calling itself 303 fluid has been banned by at least 3 states within the last decade. I''m going to echo most others: 303 fluid is junk! Best to steer clear of it.

303 as originally specd, will meet or exceed the original specifications for your for 3000. As 303 used a vicosity improver made out of whale oil, yes, the original formula is banned via the international treaty on whale harvesting. So there is a lot of misinformation out there. 303 technically can not be sold under the original spec. However there are companies selling a utf that meets and exceeds the original specs by using a modern 20-xxxwt base oil that far exceed the original spec. As to having to use a 134 spec oil, 134 was not invented yet, while the 3000 was being sold,

You actually need either a m2c41 for the sos transmission or a m2c53a for the manual transmission and were the CORRECTLY speced fluids. The John Deere spec 303 fluid meet this spec also. To say otherwise is blatantly false.

HOWEVER... m2c134a,b,c,d,e,f,g fluids meet and far exceed the original specs, as does the John Deere j20 spec and are easier to find. You do not need to buy a m2c134G (ambra)synthetic fluid at a greater cost so dont waste your money.

As the 134a is specifically spec'd for wet brakes and my 3400 (same as your 3000) has dry outboard brakes, I put TSCs 303 into the trans (8 spd 4x2) to test and flush a non running rebuild I finished a few years back..... I meant to change it to UTF but with only 30hrs on the tractor so far I haven't changed it yet.
