Adjusting the clutch on a 961

My 961 has been split twice in the last year. I offered both times to spring for a clutch. My neighbor works on equipment from his home. He said both times, that it wasn't time, and I trust him.

The tractor seems to want to keep pulling for about a second and a half after the clutch is pressed in. Also some fairly pronounced grinding when putting it in gear. Would adjusting the clutch help this? also where to start. I see what appears to be two places to adjust.

You don't say why it was split twice. Personally if I split a tractor at the engine and clutch housing, it gets a new clutch kit, whether it needs it or not.

Sounds like your clutch is dragging, so yes, it's possible an adjustment could help. If you have too much clutch pedal free play, the clutch may not be fully disengaging when the pedal is fully down. A service manual will tell you where and how to adjust

Sounds like oil/grease on the clutch.

If so, adjustment will not help.

Matters little as there is no external adjustment anyway aside from pedal height.

A 961 has a two stage clutch - push down all the way to engage the PTO, let up a bit and the other stage engages the transmission. There are two holes on the clevis where it is pinned to the lever which enters the bell housing. IF the clevis is in the hole which allows for lower pedal height, then there is a possibility that shortening the clevis/rod assembly to gain some pedal height would alleviate the symptoms you describe.

Worth checking.

Why was the tractor split (twice)? Does it drip any oil out the bell housing area?

The I&T manual has directions...

It needed a rear main once. It is leaking again. Thats unfortunate to. The second time, something with the PTO broke. Hy/trans fluid was coming out the weep hole that time. Whats coming out now is definitely engine oil though.

There is a ton of slop in the clutch pedal. It appears to have a grossly undersized bolt through the yoke.
