53 jubilee won't start

I've searched on here for my issue but haven't found anything that helped. I have a 53 ford jubilee. She sat for the last 4 or 5 months and now won't start after running and starting well. I put new fuel in the tank and a little bit in each spark plug hole assuming i had a fuel issue. But she wouldn't start. I pulled each plug and checked with a light tester and i dont have spark. Swapped out ballast resistor with one i had and same issue. Tested resistance in both ballast resistors and its .5 ohms. I couldn't find anywhere what that should be. Hooked those wires to bypass resistor and Checked plug against engine and in 5 seconds of trying saw one faint yellowish spark appear. Pulled coil wire tested that against engine also same issue. It almost seemed to fire but wouldn't continue Tested from battery positive to coil and i have nothing. I'm a newbie working my way around with a multimeter so I'm not entirely positive if I'm doing it right. I pulled the distributor cap and everything looks OK except the dust cover. The center is broken out but i don't think that effects performance does it? Points Gap looked ok but i didn't measure it. Not great at electrical issues but with you're help i know i can figure this out

You most likely need to clean and or replace the points. Sitting that long the points tend to corroded

That's what i thought originally but when testing from the positive terminal to the ignition coil i had nothing, that made me think otherwise but I'm not familiar with what i should be looking for

Here is a simple test that even a cave man that can read can do. Take a wire and hook it to the ignition side of the battery. Have the cap off so you can see the points. Touch that wire to the ignition side of the coil with the points closed. You should see a small spark when you do so. Then turn the engine enough to get the points to open up as wide as they will then touch the wire to the ignition side of the coil. This time you should not get a spark If you do you have a short either in the distributor it self or the insulator going into the side of the distributor has shorted to ground

What old told you is a good simple test, but you don't even need to turn the engine over, just put a piece of paper from a brown paper bag for instance between the point contacts. Let us know what you found and we can go from there.

...........and as a "bonus", when he pulls the paper out, it will probably clean off the oxide and it will fire right up! :)

While the paper can work by opening the points one can sometimes see a spark that you would not see with the paper which shows up a short. Seen more then one insulator short show up due to a spark in that area
