6610 steering column

I have a 6610 4x4 with steering issues. It randomly stops steering. The wheel locks and can't be turned. If I work it inside its play it will eventually start steering again. When it is locked up it leaks from the weep hole by the steering motor very heavily. I want to refresh the seals and balls from the column. Can anyone help me with the size and number of ball bearings required for this job? The book I have shows 15 in the upper race, but does not mention anything about the ones in the worm gear.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, before people ask, it is a Gen I and it has the steering column with the output shaft out the left side, to a pitman arm. It does NOT have cylinders. Hope this helps. Thanks again.

From my experince on a 340 Ford with same setup the worm was worn and box it turns in. Tryed new balls, once a load was in bucket it would not steer.

Thanks, Mine was apart for a leak. The locking didn't start until after I got it back. Mine doesnt seem to be load sensitive. I think it is missing some of the bearings.

I had a 6600 a while back with a leaky seal on top so i took it apart to put on a speedi sleeve on the badly pitted shaft. I remember using really cold vaseline to feed all 42 balls back into the worm housing. Bern was a great help with his advice on that mess i got myself into. Worked great afterwards
