Ford 3000 Hydraulics Issue/Service

The hydraulics stopped working on my 70 Ford 3000. Took the cover off and the fluid was basically grey. (I inherited this tractor from my wifes grandfather and he was the kind that never serviced anything, God rest his soul.)

So, Ive drained the fluid and looked at the filters and they look pretty dirty. Can I take those off and clean them or do they just need replacing? Anything else I should do while Im performing this service? TIA...

I just rebuilt my 1970 3000 top
lid. Replace the filters. Also
you might as well rebuild the
top lid since you have it off. I
would suggest you watch a video
by Rachel Gingell and her father
rebuild the top lid. Just Google
it. It is a very good video. It
really is a simple project and
not expensive. When you set the
top lid back in have some help
or use a cherry picker if you
have one. You really have to set
it straight down and not moving
it around.

Thanks John. That sounds like solid advice. How difficult was it for you to replace the filters? Ive read thats not a trivial task, but havent found any good videos on that (and the repair/service manual I have doesnt say anything specific about replacing the filters).

I only replaced the one in your
photo that is on the tube that
has been braised up and has a
spring attached. I had to also
braise my tube and replace that
spring because it was broken. I
think that's really a common
break on those tractors. It was
all very simple. Watch that
video. The young lady does a
great job explaining the repair
process. She has other videos
for the Ford 3000's like clutch
replacement and hydraulic pump
rebuild.

Hi John, I'm just now getting back to this after finishing another project... Any details on the brazing process? I've welded copper pipe before, but never this material. (I guess it's steel?) What torch/fuel should I use? What do I need to "unbraze" what's there?

Need to bump this back to the top... I have everything ready to remove, but I can't figure out how to get the filter out in the picture above. What's the trick here?
