Ford 3000 exhaust manifold bolts

Did all the 3000s come with studs, or did some have bolts holding on the exhaust manifold? Im getting ready to change my manifold from horizontal to vertical. I have the bolts soaking in Kroil right now. Mine has bolts with a locking tab underneath. Is that factory or has someone been in here before me? Im hoping maybe they have so they come out easy.

Anyways, everything Ive read online talks about them having studs and not bolts.

I bought the new manifold, gasket, and adaptor pipe from YT. It looks like the only other thing Ill need is one bolt is much longer on the vertical manifold. Where as the horizontal manifold has all the same length bolts.

Interesting. Ok then :D

The plan is to take one of the short bolts down to TSC and get a longer bolts to fit the new manifold (the center bolt). Can I just use a grade 5 or 8 bolt? I mean if TSC has the right pitch bolt. Hopefully it isnt some super fine thread or something.

Also should I use some never seez on the bolts? I have some nickel stuff.

Ford always used bolts to hold the manifolds on
You need a 3/8 - 16 x 5 grade 5 bolt
Anti seize is fine as long as you use the locking tabs to keep the bolts from backing out
A little oil on the threads is all I use

I got the new manifold mounted up. It hits the power steering lines, so I had to move those a little. Hopefully the 1/2 inch clearance they have now is enough.

When I start the tractor theres an exhaust leak between the adaptor pipe and the muffler. How do I seal this up better?

That extension pipe looks a little long, does it stick up thru the hood
Theres 2 extension pipes, a short one for 3 cylinder tractors and a longer one for the 4 cylinder models
The correct pipe should stop short of sticking thru the hood

I leave mine loose for easy muffler removal but some use a muffler clamp to clamp the muffler to the pipe under the hood

Yes this one sticks out of the hood about 5. I like the height it puts the muffler at, but it would be nice if the muffler covered the hole in the hood a little better.
I didnt know there were two different lengths. The one I got is from YT. Theyre so cheap I might get the shorter one to try out at some point.

Id like to make the fit a little tighter between the pipes without using a clamp. It would be nice if the muffler was still easy to remove. Maybe a couple more coats of paint would do it. Lol.
