Toggle switch

Have a 600 gas 6 volt, and keyed switch
has gone bad. Will a toggle switch work
as good as a new keyed switch?

How did you determine the ignition switch was bad? Did it just click click click when pushbutton applied? Then it's your dead battery. If switch has been tested and is bad, I'd get an OEM type replacement and get that toggle switch out of your head. It can be wired and work but becomes a safety hazard especially for youngins. Why join the ranks of being a hackmaster?

IGNITION SWITCH

At times it will shut down as if key was turned off.
I can jiggle the switch when it starts this and it
will be fine for a while. I think it's the switch that
came with the tractor in 1957.

Why not just get a new quality generic keyed ignition switch, even if the tractor is not currently stored in an area where kids or vandals are likely to mess with it there might be a time and place that could happen and the option to be able to take the key with you is a good thing.

Furthermore, a GOOD ignition switch will reliably carry more Amps than the average cheap hardware store toggle switch.

Some of the "heavy duty" toggle switches from "The Land of Almost Right" are nothing to brag about, either.

If the tractor sits exposed to the weather a good "marine grade" ignition switch will cost some $$$ but last a lot longer.

Plus, imo everyone knows what a key switch does. If you're in trouble and someone needs to shut it of quickly, every one knows how to do that. Only you will know what toggle switch to shut off.
