841 electronic ignition

The 841 we got this week has an
occasional miss. It also has electronic
ignition. Pulled spark plugs, cleaned
them, and checked gap. No difference. Any
thoughts? I know nothing about EI. I
hate to throw parts at it. Maybe plug
wires? Timing? Coil? Put points back
in??!?! Lol

Could be as simple as a bad plug wire or bad plug. I use NGK3112 plugs in my Fords. Also could be a valve that needs to be adjusted. A compression check would find a valve problem. I'd make sure you have a good blue/white spark at each plug that jumps a 1/4 inch gap.

You want at least 100PSI and something like 125-150 is even better. Below 100PSI shows a wore engine

ow, you know that you have been messing with engines long enough to know that a miss on one cylinder eliminates those things that are common to all! Common to all is easy, coil, carb, EI, timing & maybe others I can't think of at the moment. But, specific to only one cylinder would be valves, compression, spark plug & one wire, and reaching a little, even a portion of the distributor cap.
