600 gas won't fire til you let up on start button

It's in the header. I know this has something to do with the way it's wired, I just need the solution. 600 gas won't fire til you let up on start button, then it fires right up. I know some Chevy 350 V8's had this problem and I think they wired the coil wire to the starter solenoid but thee Chevy had two terminals on the solenoid. I have just a flip switch with the coil and solenoid connected to the same terminal on the switch.

Weak ignition. Check battery, cables, connections, points, wiring, etc., everything in the primary ignition circuit.

There is another recent thread about this problem.

There is no ballast resistor bypass on your 600 if it is still 6V.

Who knows how it is wired if it has been converted to 12V.

I converted it to 12 volt and put a new coil on with the ballast after I blew the other one up by leaving the switch on, also mfried the points. I wired it up with a toggle switch just to get it going.

You don't need a wire from the toggle switch to the solenoid. What's happening is, the start button supplies ground to the small post on the solenoid, and is grounding out the ignition while cranking. All you need is a wire from battery on the terminal block to the toggle switch then from the other post on the switch to your coil or resister.
