Question about forks

Finally broke down and bought a new set of pallet forks. What is
the best way to go about putting holes in the end? Wont need it
often, but awful handy to use in a pinch.

Thx.
 
DO NOT put any holes in any forklift fork. I know every body does. It is a liabilty issue. Build unit that clamps to forks and ties off to mounting.

Or if it fails at the hole and something is damaged or someone is injured or killed.

If it fails anywhere, after a hole was put in one, the case will be whole fork was affected by the hole due to tip overloading, if something happens. Seen it happen in our wonderful tort system.

Make a clamp on device that goes on both forks, with the hole between them so the load is shared. Trailer balls or pins can be used with it. Likewise a vertical lifting eye, behind the horizontal hole between the forks, is good for lifting with a chain or cable, rather than wrapping a fork. Tip loading of the forks must be watched as ratings are general based on 24" from the back rest.
 
A lot of people do it. Is it handy, yes. But if it's such a good idea, why don't they offer them that way?
 
The hole is near the tip, not in the middle or the other end where most of the strength is needed. I frankly stand a far greater chance of
dying from nnalert than I do from a fork breaking (hint: I'm not afraid of either).

They do.
 

Fabricate an attachment to go over the forks life will be good.

Look up pallet fork attachment accessories some are cheaper than you would think they would be. I made all of mine if I had not had the material on hand it would have been cheaper to buy all ready made up.
