I am in the process of changing my fuel filter and lift pump. I got the same filter that was on it - WIX 33166 but they are different. The new one with the small hole doesn't fit - the center hole is too small.

Anyone know about this?

It would appear that the tin shield in the old filter separated away from the inner element. Look up into your filter head and pry it out.

I just changed the fuel filter on my 3000 with the same Wix P/N. Both the old and new filters have the small hole as shown on your left filter.
Did part of your old filter get stuck up in the housing?

Bern and JerryLook - [b:6741cc9640]that was exactly the problem.[/b:6741cc9640] Thank you. I have a 730 loader on so it was difficult to see up there and even get the gasket on right.

I had bought a couple of filters and also a lift pump to try and fix my problem of the tractor starving for fuel under load. The filter seems to have been the problem so I'm going to just save the lift pump for possible future use.

Yeah - back in the pasture again!

You guys are the best!

Its good to hear youre back up and running again. Mine has a 730 loader also, and yes it makes it a pain to work on.
