The original subject was Re: Rear main seal on Ford 860.

Did it work? You don't use both? You only use the rubber 2 piece or the 2 piece rope and both would go i the outer slot? Is that correct?

Thanks!

Yes! one only, in the rear groove. The forward groove is for the oil to drain back.

I screwed up and put in the rubber one then the rope seals in the drain slot, Took off the pan and back bearing bottom and was able to just remove the rope from the bottom and top with out loosening the crank. Runs great and not leaking now, Thanks so much. I'm much wiser now

Jay, you are perhaps the fourth in two months who has posted here about doing that.

Thanks to all y'all for the input. I am getting ready to re-install my crank and would have made this same mistake. I am leaning toward the rubber seal and using RTV along the sides of the rear Main cap.
Just want to ask one stupid question before I do.. I am working on A Jubilee with the 134, I assume this design is the same??

Yes, exactly the same. To get the RTV in adequately, I coated the deeper part of the cap before putting it in, and then pushed the RTV in through a short piece of milk shake straw to extend the tube that comes on the RTV tube.
