Ford 1500 parting the blue sea

Hello guys. Got the 1500 shibaura 2 cyl. diesel ready to pull out as soon as I take the injection and hydraulic pumps off. The shop manual mentions putting wood wedges in the front axle first. I can't figure out where and what size of wedge. I plan on having a jack stand under the front bumper and one somewhere around the brace at the back of the front axle. Then I think I need a jack stand and maybe a jack under the transmission.

Just not sure what the weight balance is when I take out the 6 bolts on each side of the block. It looks to me like I would have to jack up the trans to part the engine from the transmission. This is a 4 wheel drive so there is an drive shaft running down the center below the engine so I'm not sure how that interacts with pulling the engine. I'm also not sure where to hook some pickup straps to except to wrap them around the engine. Don't want to use the head bolts.

Thanks for any help so I don't have a disaster like when I parted the IH 2606.

Thanks. Got it ready to split just have 4 bolts to take out. Not sure what the wedges look and where they go but I'll have jack stands under it.

Had to pull the timing gear cover to remove the injection pump. The pump had a gear it with a housing. I marked where the gear teeth meshed with the next gear and pulled off. Then I could get at the 3 injection mounting bolts. Two had some type of sleeve and one was missing. The pump came loose and there were no shims anywhere. I didn't pull any other gears off yet. Guess I'll lift out the block, remove the oil pan, and then take it too the shop rebuilding the head and pull apart whatever they want when I get there.

The wedges keep the radiator/front axle bolster from spinning around on the front axle pivot. This photo is from the Hundred series service manual but the idea is the same. This photo also shows them under the axle but usable over the axle on different models.

Thanks. I see now. Looks like the wedges keep it from rotating side to side.

Well hold on Tom. I hoping not to every have to split it again!! Guess I'll be looking at the clutch at the same time so will see how that goes. Thanks for the help so far.

bc, you block the front and roll the rear. You get a trailer jack with a wheel, and bolt it to the side of the rear housing through a bracket that you fabricate. Removal of a running board is often required. The back will roll much more easily than the front, and with the jack it can't fall. Before disconnecting be sure that it is level front to back, checking at the oil pan/block junction.

BC, I thought I'd show you what followed me home today. 1510 with 703 hours. Runs like a top. New Firestone's on back. It has a 3 cylinder Shubara.

That's nice. I wish that one followed me home instead of the one I got!! oh well. Got busy last few days so today I plan to lift that engine block out.

Thanks showcrop. Good thing to know especially since I was planning on using jack stands on the front. It's sitting on the ground where I parked it with the mower still attached to the 3 point. Probably stick a furniture dolly or 2 wheel dolly under the transmission with a jack. Some kind of farmrow engineering anyway.
