Ford 631 position control

Good evening all. Just bought a 1959 631 and went to use it for the first time today with my 5 foot brush hog. The 3 point lift seems to be strong as far as up and down goes, but cant seem to get it to hold position to keep the front of the hog off the dirt. Only seems to work in the upper section of the control, and then it slowly drifts down and next thing you know, I'm chewing rocks. Is there a place to start looking first with this problem? Tractor did set for a while, but it does run nice, and I bought it for brush cutting mainly, so I would like to get it fixed. Thanks, Tim

If you're sure you're in position mode
(lever parallel to ground), you will
probably have to pull and go through the
lift cover. When lift position doesn't
match the control lever position you might
have a worn cam follower pin, or something
bent. After servicing deficiencies you'll
have to go through the adjustment
procedure to ensure lift position
correctly tracks control lever position.

Make sure the lift control lever is not drifting down. Its a friction system to hold it in place. If it is drifting try snugging up the nut.

ust use a "stay chain kit" to hold in in position instead of relying on hydraulics. Works for me and many others for decades.

I might go with that idea. Will work fine in my situation til I get bored in the winter, and might want to take that back cover off. Thanks for the advice sir...Tim
